Thailand’s Prefabricated Steel Building Bazaar By Universal Steel Buildings.

Project summary

In this post, we are going to be looking back on some of the most iconic prefabricated steel building projects that Universal Steel Buildings had produced. One of the largest prefabricated steel buildings that we have made is the Chiang Rai Bazaar.

Due to the special property of the prefabricated steel building, the client felt it was suitable for the market because of the large clear span with little need for supporting columns to yield even more space, therefore increasing the number of stalls/stores within the market and from that, a higher margin for profit.

With almost 400.000 kg of steel. Spanning over 25.000 square meters, it is an impressive construction that can withstand the test of time in the harsh weather of Thailand.

For a prefabricated steel building project of this scale and size, a lot must go into the planning phase of the project. Because an error of this magnitude would cost hundreds and thousands of dollars to fix, therefore Universal Steel Buildings take extra care to make sure that everything is perfect or at the very least, reduce the chance of risk ever happening.

The 5 steps of a prefabricated steel building are:

  • Design + Planning
  • SHOP drawing
  • Fabrication
  • Shipping / Delivery
  • Erection

First step: Designing + Planning.

With any project, we take extra care within the designing phase, we understand your wants and needs and will procure an optimized design that is cost-effective and of high quality. To do this, detailed and effective information exchanges between our certified / highly skilled engineer and the client happens to make sure both sides understand each other intention.

For the prefabricated steel building bazaar, the client asked for top quality, American certified, and time-saving as the must-have factors for this project. Despite the challenge and after many revisions to strike that perfect balance between quality and price, this prefabricated steel building project was germinated from the start to be highly beneficial for the client financially wise.

Second step: SHOP Drawing

After designing we move on to the actual SHOP drawing for the building itself.

A SHOP drawing is a must-have for any pre-engineered steel buildings project to satisfy the “pre-engineered” aspect. Much like a Lego building instruction but on steroids, a SHOP drawing guides the entire fabrication project in individual sections that are all labeled as numbers and letters to indicate where that specific part will be placed and erected.

Third step: Fabrication

Next is a fabrication, a crucial step that will only happen after all the challenges of the previous steps are solved and both sides agree to move on to the next step with flexible payment plans.

With our factories producing high-quality and certified structural steel, a careful and strict quality control phase is a must-have standard for all components with digital measuring devices, with our methods of quality control, our margin for error is virtually zero.

Fourth step: Shipping

The finished components are then shipped to the designated area with a variety of methods agreed upon before the fabrication phase, and with these factors, we try to save cost while at the same time making sure that the client is receiving the best possible solution with a wide range of options such as category C and F.

Fifth step: Erection

Finally, erection. A multitude of factors go into this phase to make sure everything works perfectly, ground quality, crane operation, safety tools, equipment… A detailed plan is made before this to make sure the process goes without a hitch and to give our client a clear perspective on the project. After all of that, a final quality check is made to ensure the client receives a proper product.

This is a very short summary of our process and how a prefabricated steel building project was made in this particular situation. For each client, the process could be flexible in terms of payment plans, delivery, project timing, etc… But one thing that stays the same is the dedication to detail and quality that separate us from the competition.
