Ice factory in Thailand by Universal Vietnam Steel Buildings.

Project summary
One of our more ambitious projects, this ice factory project was a combination of efforts between US Buildings and a consultant who wants to find a structural builder for their client. After contacting multiple contractors, they found that our products, pricing scheme, and services are perfect for this particular project; That with the fact that we have been working very closely within the Thailand market gives us an advantage over our competitors.

Project progress.
As with any project, this one also went through a 6-step process.

First is consulting;

In the beginning, the client wanted the design for the ice factory structure based on their architecture design for the factory, which contains the main factory floor, storage area, employee quarters, guard posts, 2 loading bays for both loading in the water and loading out the final product onto vehicles. A design was agreed on within 2-3 weeks for multiple revisions and optimizing the structure through better material to price ratio and extra features like conveyor belt support frames and catwalks. Due to the nature of an ice factory, the internal temperature must be kept below or near freezing; This complicated thing however because first, the area surrounding the factory is quite hot due to being in a tropical country, the average temp in Thailand could be around 28 to 33 degrees Celsius (or 82 - 91 degrees Fahrenheit) and in summers it could be around 30-36 degree Celsius (or 86-97°F). This means the structure and sheeting must be highly insulated at all times, this could be achieved with a Polyurethane Foam Sandwich Panel (PU Panels), which also has the benefits of being very fire resistant. However, insulation is just halved of the problem, the other half is keeping the insulated air within the structure; Our team of engineers and designers made sure that every corner, joint, opening, and door are sealed properly to make sure that the cold air does not escape the structure. With these factors in mind, we also consulted with the client to make sure that the ventilation system is fed through a system of air conditioners, this would require extra frames, brackets, and hanging vents.

Then the second step is designing, taking in all of those factors, all 3 sides agreed on a pricing scheme so the project can officially be sent to the factory.

Fabrication is the third step, a BOM drawing is sent out to one of the three factories or all three, depending on the amount of steel needed. For this project, the client required that both the steel structure and the sheeting be painted gray for better heat reflection. While the components are being made, we keep live-updating our clients with each step in the process, to make sure that they are happy with the final product.
Then comes transportation and logistics, this part is up to the client's preferred method of transportation, in this case, its CIF. The client is also notified about when and where the materials are being loaded and unloaded.

In the fifth step, the materials are unloaded at the site then erection can begin. A site overseer will monitor the election process and make sure that everything is up to standards. This could be achieved by a checklist of necessary items and standards that the overseer must follow, the list could contain crane operations and angles, installation of structure method, nuts and bolts force needed, etc.…  While this is happening, we would keep updating the client with what was happening live at the construction site. Then after finishing, the overseer would go through the checklist again to make sure everything is in order, and representatives from all sides would go to the final building to inspect for themselves.

Finally, maintenance, the client is sent a list of maintenance guidelines to help them identify any problems when using the product; for each product, we provide a 20 years maintenance window for the main structure.
