Thailand's prefabricated steel sugar factory project

 

One of our most accomplished projects in the early days of the company, this sugar factory project is one of the flagship projects for Universal Steel Buildings.

This project defines the growth of the company by using past mistakes and applying them to this one, for example, everything on a project must be documented as detailed as possible, down to the weight of each washer so that we can give you the most accurate pricing scheme possible. From this project, we also improved upon the service process to make it even more efficient in terms of time, cost and labor.

Project Summary

 

Sugar factories much like any factory that requires a complex structure to house the system that will manufacture the product, must be custom made to the specific order of the client. In this particular situation, silo racks for large tanks of sugar vaporizers, condensers, and tumblers are needed. The sugar factory also comes with a loading bay for raw materials and a shipping bay, both the clients require an overhanging roof. Other than that, the clients also request 2 small rooms to be installed within the structure, one is an on-site lab for product testing, and the other is a management office on top of a mezzanine. This inclusion of different parts for the sugar factory project really solidifies the company as an all-in-one solution provider, and it shows that the client was very pleased with the overall quality and speed of the project.

 

Process

 

The process for the sugar factory project includes an initial site survey, the concrete foundation is already in place, however other factors must be counted so that the consultation is as accurate as possible; Some of the information needed to gather is whether or not the area is in an earthquake zone, or high in humidity/salt/rain that can cause wear and corrosion. For this sugar factory project, the area for construction has a high humidity level, which could cause corrosion, molds within the insulation/foam, and water condensation within the closed area, therefore, better / thicker paint with fireproof was used and higher quality foam and insulation to prevent molding.

 

After that designing for the complete structure begins, here, our teams of engineers and designers work with the client to come up with the best solution in terms of prices and material. This could be achieved through better material costs, and cost-efficient design using cutting-edge technology like Tekla to eliminate excess materials. Once an agreement is met, the contract is sealed, and the project will now move into the fabrication and erection phase.

 

Fabrication is a fairly simple process; however, the quality control must have no compromises and be strict to ensure the best product is produced every single time. This could be achieved through the in-house Quality Control department that checks every component between each manufacturing process, for example, each I beam that just got rolled and welded must not have a difference of 5mm in thickness.

 

Then comes painting, the Quality Control department continues their job by checking both the type of paint and thickness to make sure it is to the client's order and quality. Only after multiple rounds of quality control, before the component gets shipped to the construction site, a final test from quality control is performed and sent to the client for evidence of performance.

Then the containers are shipped to Thailand, in this particular project, we provide logistic services for the client with a DDP incoterm; This ensures the product is shipped safely with no risk for the client and by using our in house logistic system in Thailand, this is to ensure the arrival of the product is both on time and in full quantity.

After arriving safely at the site, the erection begins with the site engineer, he/she will based on the schematic of the project and slowly erect each area. While doing that, they also check the quality of work by making semi-regular checks on the workers to make sure the quality is top-notch, and at the end, a checklist is used to make sure everything is taken care of and quality control. All of these pieces of information will be relayed back to the client for updates.
